he correct way to clean a DVD is:
1) Hold the DVD so that you are not touching the playable surface.
2) Using a clean disc cloth (you can buy them or use a soft cloth) start in the middle of the disc and move out to the outer egde.
3) Do not clean in a circular motion or back and forth across disc. This will scratch the disc and maybe damage it.
4) Only go from center of disc to outer edge not from outer edge to center.
5) Repeat until intire Disc is Clean
6) Place back in player and enjoy Movie.
Thanks I hope this helps

An okay way to do it (not recommended but it works) is to run it under the faucet. I use just a little dish soap and apply it lightly with my finger on the disc. Dry with a soft towel, blotting, not rubbing. This is used to get rid of the finger prints of little kids on the discs.
I know a lot of people are cringing. This could induce scratches. When you wipe the disc, don't do circles, wipe radially from the center straight out to the edge.
But it does get rid of the finger prints, dust, drool, and dirt. And the discs are once again playable.
