For some reason, people equate atheists with immorality. This is, of course, untrue. I don't believe in a "God" or a religion and I am a kind and fair person. Also, people don't like to be challenged in their beliefs, because deep down they realize there is no proof, there is only their faith. They don't want to be made fools of, which is exactly what religion does to them.
Check out the Brights, a group of people who do not believe in anything supernatural, but are interested in having some political clout. They are putting a positive spin on atheism.

I don't believe in god either, but I keep it hush hush because my family, ouside my husband and children, would go bananas. I think the whole idea of "god" "jesus" etc was made up by a group who wanted to gain finacially. Don't see why god needs my money or why i should be "tithe"ing 10% of everything to "god" I believe in what i can see and feel. I have faith in goodness and love, and I try to treat people kindly and be a good person.
I find that mostly, people seem to think that you have to worship SOMETHING...and if it's not their god, then you must be into satan (whom I also don't believe in). I'm a very spiritual person, but religion is an organized thing, and I think people are generally mass delusional and insane, so I avoid things that are "organized"

I do believe in God, but my beliefs are my own. I am a somewhat religious person, a Christian, however there is always someone out there who believes that "my" religion is wrong, or those within my religion who feel that I do not spread my beliefs enough. It is not for us to judge -- this is what most zealots have a problem understanding --- and I agree with Iomegan.

I can't say that you live a horrible life, because I don't judge people. I would be your friend whether you believed in God or not. God created all people equal, and in His own image. However, I do believe all those who accept Jesus Christ as ther Saviour will be blessed. It says so. I myself am a believer and have lived a very rough life. I have lost soooo much, but now have soooo much more. My God has blessed me with a child which will be here in a couple weeks. I am so very grateful. Don't let people down you for your beliefs. They are more than likely hipocrates anyway, which makes them worse than you. I hope this answers your question the way you want.

Well I guess they were not really your friends.
I think everyone has their own beliefs and opinion about every single thing. Specially religion. Look I believe in God, but I don't go to church every Sunday. And just because I have a friend that does not believe in God, I will stop being their friend. That would be childish and ignorant.

I have no doubt you are a good person, but ask yourself why? To what ends? If there is no God and no afterlife then why attempt to live a "good" life. You get further in this life lying and cheating. For me, God gives me a focus, a reason to "love my neighbor". Belief and love for Christ allows me to experience the greatest gift of life... to live eternally, in fellowship with God and his Son who represent the greatest good. God isn't a belief but a fact, the Bible says "seek and you WILL find..." before dismissing God... seek Him out, what could it possibly hurt? At worst you would be the same as you are now but resolved that God doesn't exist... at best you might find what so many others of us have found... That God is real, and life with Him is far better than life without Him. I commend you on how you have lived your life, God is certainly proud of you his creation. Let Him show you how much...

People who believe in god need so badly to feel justified in their belief that the can't allow themselves to let anything else in. They give up so much in there pursuit of god(pleasure, freedom of choice, etc.) that they hate those of us who don't. Just live your life, try to be a good person, and know that in your heart that at least you are not judging (which I believe their book says to be a sin), and don't worry what they think. They probably think that you are taking them staight to hell with them. People have a hard time seeing that you can be spiritual and a wonderful person without believing in god.

In almost every major religion denying God is an unforgivable sin. To them you are worse then a murderer. If you don't like it fake it or try and find more atheist friends. You could also become Agnostic because no one can have proof that God does not exist.

Unfortunely people are very closed minded. and although they claim to be "good christians" or whatever, many religions teach their children that not believing is wrong. It sucks and it's hard. I just made it a point in my life to change people's minds. to help them see that being different is ok. It's a person that should count. Not what they do or dont believe in. Just know your more open to difference than they are...therefore you are better off. I grew up being told i was going to hell and many kids werent allowed to play with me because of my "lack of religion". they learned it from their parents...it was encouraged by thier parents. That is what is hardest for me. They are teaching their children to be discrimitive...to be unforgiving. Isnt one of the highest teachings of christ...and any religion forgiveness and acceptance. obviously many arent the "great people" their church makes them believe.

Welcome to Secular Humanism. There are many like you. And it's perfectly okay to be one.
Religious zealots are hellbent to convert you. Don't let them. They do it because they think they are doing YOU a favor (lol) or for selfish motivations (like they want to go to heaven.)
Religion has a knack of creating incredibly judgmental pawns who want to control the way you think or live based on their interpretation of some religious text.
People who are that consumed with religion don't deserve to be your friends.
