Serious cave explorers in the US, Great Britain, Australia, and Canada refer to themselves as cavers. Spelunker is an American term, often considered colloquial, and is used by cavers to describe those who know nothing about caves who sometimes visit. Thus the bumper sticker: CAVERS RESCUE SPELUNKERS.
In Great Britain some cavers are refered to as potholers who explore primarily vertical caves using rope. Potholing has the additional connotation of being more extreme. In the US vertical cavers call themselves just that. Cave divers also simply refer to themselves as cave divers.
In science, cave science is often refered to as speleology. There are quite a few subcategories for the different fields of science, such as biospeleology, etc.

Technically, a spelunker -- although no one uses that term any more. Most of us who explore caves call ourselves "cavers"
