The chicken. Eggs can't be laid without a chicken. I would think that the first chicken became a chicken as we know it today because it was a mutation of whatever was before chickens.

Well since evolution doesn't exist (it is still called the "theory of evolution" therefore it is not proven => not a fact...
That said, God created the earth, all that is on it, then all the animal (chicken included) then said to go an procreate... so the chicken came before the egg... What would be interesting would be to know the name of "who laid the first egg" !

Well. I feel if you are going down the evolution route of beliefs, the Chicken, as it would have evolved from something else, and developed the ability to lay eggs for reproduction. But, if believing the God did everything theory, then I would say egg. No, God DID NOT lay the egg, but he would have created it, then the first Chicken would have hatched from it. It depends on which way you see it, but really has no definite answer

It was the egg.
A different species layed an egg, and a genetic mutation altered the DNA of the egg, which grew in a chicken-like animal that could interbreed with another like species and the result evolve into what we today know as the chicken.

I believe the chicken was created after years of evolution, so my answer would be the egg (came first).

The chicken, because the egg had to have come from something.

"Genetic material does not change during an animal's life. Therefore the first bird that evolved into what we would call a chicken, probably in prehistoric times, must have first existed as an embryo inside an egg" - Professor John Brookfield, a specialist in evolutionary genetics at the University of Nottingham.

Dumb Mode:
LOVE that question. It is so hard to answer! If you say the chicken, you would wonder where the chicked came from. If you say egg, then you would ask yourself what laid the egg? I LOVE that question!
Serious Mode:
I would say the egg.

real answer - the egg. the first chicken emerged as a mutant, and passed it's genes on when it reproduced, eventually making the chicken we know now.
joke answer - the chicken. because the chicken gets laid before the egg comes out.
