Can you believe friends' gas mileage claims?

I'm looking for a car to use in the UK that will also serve as a compact delivery van. My friend suggested a citroen picasso as he says his regularly returns 60 - 75 mpg. I find that hard to believe. Can anyone recommend a small car that will serve as a van & is super cheap to own & run?

First off if your friend is coming from the UK why is he talking in mpg? Anyone from the UK I would expect to be talking in km/L. Makes me very suspicious and odds are he miscalculated in a conversion.

honda hatchback i dont know if you have them there in the uk (michigan) close to 40 mpg over all
