I think that I am a bit biased towards australia, but I think that there were several bad calls with the ref. I actually don't think that the ref was biased, but I don't think that he controlled the game. 13 on the Croatian team was holding Viduku all of the time, and he wouldn't let go. He also did 2 handballs in the box, one that the ref called, and another that australia could have scored on, but the ref didn't see it. Also, 3 on the croatian team was given 2 yellow cards but he didn't go off. So, my question is:

DO YOU THINK THAT THE REF WAS BIASED AND/OR DIDN"T CONTROL THE GAME WELL?

Absolutely. This ref won't have a long future in World Cup football. He will have to stick with Premier League.

I think he was slighly biased, but then every ref in FIFA is atleast a little biased, so the only way to ensure impartiality is to get aliens to ref the game.
He is also only human, as another answerer said quite rightly.
I think the ref could have been a little more alert however, given that he didn't see actions taking place in the presence of the ball (where it's all happening), such as Viduka being held down, and the second handball.
If the game was rigged unfairly enough there would be a FIFA official inquiry and there is a posibility points would be altered and staff would be changed. Hundreds of millions of people are watching the sport live. I think FIFA would have people watching ref calls closely enough to decide that if he is swinging the odds he'd be pulled mid-game and replaced. Perhaps FIFA should consider having 1 ref for the first half and another for the second half, on all games from now on. just a thought ...

As a ref, true he gave 2 yellows and didn't send him off. But that's what the fourth official is for. He should have brought it to the referee's attention the moment he let the player walk away. He also maintained control up until the last few minutes. As for the other stuff, he's only human.

How can you control a game when both teams are laying their lives on the line to try and get their result. What would happen if you were playing in the Grand Final and you were one goal down. Most people would start playing more aggressively to try and bring the attackers or defenders down. It is hard once you are out on the pitch and he brought out a few cards to try and settle the match down, like all referees would but he was unlucky as the match escalated from there. He kept it mostly under control and it would have been easier if that match had been in the first round. He still did a good job i think.

The ref simply made a lot of bad decisions and towards the end of the game he completly lost control of what was happening.
However Australia hasn't had a good ref yet and look at where they've gone.

Well I took a straw POLL(!) with my mates & we rekon he wasn't biased-just blind- .So we're offering $200 to FIFA to get im new glasses- coke bottle ends so he can zoom in on handballs and player numbers! We'd also like to offer the pommy bastard a six pak of Fosters so he can get blind before is next match & maybe he'll ref betta than this last shokka!

People say this sort of thing in every sport, in every match, and on both sides. People watching on TV see the incident from 82 different angles, slowed down to 1/50th speed, and watch it 7 times, the say that the ref, who saw it once, from one angle, at full speed, got it wrong. Give them a break, if you want perfect decisions every time design a referee robot.

He did not control the game well at all. I don't think he was biased just very poor. Australia deserved their win and should perhaps have had another two penalties.
