Well I work for the state of CA and due to the fact that you are under the age of 18, it will be a litle harder to find good employment. You might want to try restaurants or fast food restaurants. You will be required to get a school work permit. You can also try to get into Summer Youth Programs where employers hire ages 15-20 and if you are a good employee you might get hired permanently. Most fast food joints and shops will if they're common stores, like Gap and Old Navy. Stay out of the fancy ones, LOL. They'll never hire you.
Most states have a summer youth employment program. Check it out. You're like guaranteed a job there. I had my first at 14 with that program here in NY. Your school or a boys and girls club should have info on it.

Most all places will hire 16 year olds. I had my first job @ 16 working for Mr. Goodcents.

Under child labor laws you can work any place you have skills to qualify but you can't work full time.
