Let's say eggs are $6 a dozen. You have to divide $6 by 12 (dozen), and you find out that each egg is $.50 (unit price).

Unit price is found by dividing the price by the number of items in the pack. For instance if a bag of potatoes was $6 dollars and had 12 potatoes in it, the unit pirce would be 50 cents per potato.

First you need to figure out which unit you want to use, pounds, ounce, etc.., .do you want to figure out how much per ounce something is or per pound something costs.
Take the total price then divide that by the number or ounces or pounds of the product. The smaller the per unit when comparing items the higher the savings.

Many grocery stores will list the price per oz (or lb or whatever) in small print on the little shelf tag next to the package price.
