I had the surgery 2-1/2 years ago. I am also 5 ft. 2 inches and weight 230 lbs. My insurance only approve the procedure if you were obese. By their definition that was 100 lbs overweight and a BMI of 40 or higher. I came in at exactly 100 lbs overweight and a BMI of 40.1.

Since the surgery I have lost 115 pounds and am doing fantastic.

There's a limit on what you need to weigh before insurance will cover it. I've done some reseach, and I've seen what it does to people who've had it, and personally, I'd rather take the health risks associated with being overweight than add a whole new list of potential problems to my health. I have no problems doing what I need/want to do, and I have no serious aches and pains. It's a personal decision, though. Noone can make it except for you!
