A little research reveals that the anti-self-service law has been on the books since 1951, is supposedly intended to protect against accidents with gasoline, and survives to protect the disabled.

I live in oregon and am not allowed to pump my own gas as a consumer...for commercial users it is different they can pump their own gas

Yes, it is illegal to pump your own gas in Oregon. The reason it is illegal is because Oregon has a very high unemployment rate and they needed to create more jobs. Pumping gas is a job. Problem solved.

Yes it is. I went to work up ther for half a year and on my way there I was running out of gas. so I pull into the gas station and someone comes up to me and says "Can I help you" and I replied "No, I'm good thanks". Well he had to tell me whats up. then I got back into my car. Real weird.

i havent seen anything except a self serve station here i thought the full service one went outta business in the 60's ,news to me

I think the only state that it's "illegal" is New Jersey, but it's possible. Try doing a Yahoo search.
