It's very normal for them to bury themselves... it is burying itself right now b/c it is too hot and trying to cool off (thermoregulating). Malaysian boxies need mostly water habitat and little bit of land. They are very different from north american boxies. The water depth should not go over its head.

The water temp should be in the 70s F and have basking area where the temp is 85-90F.

Here is a caresheet from World Chelonian Trust:

Whenever a turtle (or any pet) acts funny, we should always review the basic cares and see if there is something we need to change in the way we are raising it.

I often find that the most basic issues cause the biggest problems- basic housing needs, temps, and diet.

Well you want to make sure the enclosure is warm enough, the basking area should be 88-94 degrees F, also UVB lights. But box turtles need a hidding place to make them feel safe. Try putting a box with a hole or an arched piece of bark he can get under. It's normal for him to try and hide.

depends on the species. Turtles like the box turtle do this all the time. Most turtles do this though and it is not a big deal just leavr him or her be.

I don't know what kind of turtle you have so I'm not sure but maybe he is too hot and is trying to stay cool, or the other way around.

well your turtle may not be a he. but a she and she might be trying to get ready to lay eggs. it does not matter is the eggs are fertile or not. most reptiles lay eggs no matter what. get it a couple of days and take your turtle out and check for eggs. becareful not to move the eggs. most reptiles can hold sperm for up to 2 years.

No your turttle is not dying he may be in a stage of hibernation this may happing befor winter. Hibernation is where the turttle diges a brow to sleep and wake up when spring comes.
