Non-profit means the organisation may not make any profits - So all money made from the activities are used for the purpose which the organisation has been set up - THIS INCLUDES SALARIES. Different countries have different regulations, but you will find that many places allows the persons who run the organisation to spend as much as 60% on things other than the eventual recipients of the money. e.g. If I start a charity for disabled children, I can spend 60% of all money the organisation get on salaries, administration cost, adevrtising etc. I know of a very honourable and innovative woman who kept her family alive by starting a feeding scheme for people in her neighbourhood. She was left with no income, and with the assistance of some large stores, she started a feedings scheme. This allowed her also to feed her family.
