There aren't any lane markings on the water in the US or in Europe. You should follow safe boating practices by not consuming alcohol when driving and yield to sailboats and large ships, have safety flares and flotation devices and sound the horn if another boat is not changing course when heading too close to you. When you intend to pass on the right (starboard)or left (port) choose the side with no obstacles that would block your pass should the other boat make an unexpected turn in that direction.
