I ask this due to the growing popularity of baseball in Latin America and Asia, and of course its stable presence as the national pastime in the United States, however, i am in Germany and have been here for three weeks and haven't heard even a whisper about the sport.

The Classic will NEVER become more popular than the World Cup.

Soccer is the world's sport, baseball is America's.

Probably not in the forseeable future. Football/Soccer is HUGE the world round. Baseball is bigger in very few countries. Even if it does catch on in the coming decades, which I predict the WBC will help with, it's unlikely that the sport will spread. My personal opinion as to why baseball has never been as big as other sports is that it's almost impossible to get a pickup game of baseball going. You need several people, with gloves, bats, balls, etc. Any other sport 1 or 2 people can just go outside and kick or shoot a ball around. It makes it harder to pick up baseball. I'd love to see baseball and the WBC get that huge, but it's very difficult to imagine that actually happening.

No freakin' way. Soccer is deeply rooted in cultures all over the world; as you pointed out, it's easy to find places where baseball isn't even on the radar.

But I think the WBC has a lot of potential, and was fun to watch. I'm looking forward to the next one - too bad it doesn't happen every year. The WBC and the wild card are the good parts of Selig's legacy. Looking the other way during the steroid era is what he'll be remembered for tho.

I don't think so. Every country in the world plays soccer. Only a select few play baseball, mainly in North and Central America and Asian Countries. The sport cannot be found in Europe, Africa, and South America besides maybe Valenzuela. I think teh only European country that had a team in teh classic was Holland, and must of their players were from Curicao (Andrew Joens).

Baseball fans hope it will be, but no sport has the worldwide appeal of soccer, or football as non-Americans call it.

I wish that it would be someday, but I seriously doubt that it ever will.
