My fiance and I are getting married on Saturday, and we've been living within about 45 minutes from each side of the family, so, we kind of want to get away from each side, and as far as our friends, we can make new ones and always keep in touch with the old!

check the crime rate, check the school standing nationally, check the neighborhoods, check the local tax rate. what about the seasons? without these numbers it is too difficult to decide. you say fiance, do you want kids, how friendly is the new place to kid and family activities? is the birth hopital good?
It is always good to try something new, but it has great risk. You know these jobs, you know these people, what about the new ones? Can you come back if you change your mind? if the new place is awful? Will you be losing any major benefits like health care or pensions?
Avoid declining states like Ohio, land poor states like Hawaii, or incredibly money poor states like Nebraska and Tennessee (average income is less than 30,000, to name only a few). No matter what state, there are towns that will never accept a newcomer as a local. That means police harrassment for anything and everything. Example, setting trash out for pick up too early or not keeping your lawn the requisite three and one half inches tall... (I have lived in each of these places so please don't be a hater, I wasn't a local, I didn't know the "rules" and have a bad taste in my mouth from these places, I actually still live in one of the states listed)
It is worth a bit more research, the more that you look, you will find a concrete answer to what you ask by finding something important to you. Also, checking the top ten lists of metros will help. (kid friendly list, crime rate list etc.)Trust me when I say the numbers and risks and benefits are not the same when you dig far enough down.
You may want to stay, you may want to go, but your digging will show you everything that you have maybe missed doing where you are before you leave.

Move!! Change is always a wonderful thing. Imagine all the new people you'll meet, the new places you'll see, etc. I'm always up for moving. Luckily my husband's job requires us to move every five years so I get to experience so many different places and people and cultures! Good luck, I hope you end up making the right decision for your family!!

I started in Washington state, was in upstate NY for 3.5 years, Dayton, OH for 2 years after that, back to WA 6 years in a third city in KY. I say go for it, you will enjoy the space from the folks, and you can always go visit. Just expect to be unhappy from time to time in the new place and if your aren't it will that much better.

well uuuhhh
1) what state you live in now?
2 where is the move going to take you?
3) what is the cost of living in both states?
4) what are you going to be paid , and will it be enough to cover costs of living?
