I was curious, I have seen lots of people, men and women, with lots of tattoos and peircings and wondered, what kind of jobs do they have or can they have? I know most employers don't allow things like that, so what about jobs for them?

For those of you who think I'm being judgemental and are telling me to "lighten up" on these kinds of stlye and such, you're wrong. I'm 17 and have peircings and I'm getting more and also wanting some tattoos myself but didn't know what kinds of jobs are open to that. I know there are quite a few who already don't consider me because I have a few peircings.

I can tell you from experience since I have 29 tattoos myself. There are cleaning jobs, delivery jobs, driving taxi, and you can get a job at a call centre because you are able to cover them up. You would also be able to get a job at a bar.

You guys are some haters. I just want you to know that I am 21, I have 15 tattoos including a half sleeve and I work in the oil field, make great money, and support myself. Never have I ever worked at a bar, a sweat shop, or even a fast food restaurant. Its not about tattoos, its about how you carry yourself. Do not let judgmental people bring you down. Yes, I do cover my tattoos during work hours, only to be respectful. However, my president, ceo, Hr, and all my co-workers know about them.

It all depends on the employer. I know plenty of people with facial piercings who have great jobs. I have my nose done and I'm a nursing assistant, then again I'm 19, and I'm basically working once a week since I'm in college. At my job there's a nurse who has her eyebrow/monroe/tongue done and shes working with no problems and nobody ever says rude remarks to her.

I think now days employers are more lenient on tattoos and things like that. As long as it's not offensive, or a gang symbol I think you can have them on pretty much any job. I'm sure certain places still don't allow it, but this is just what I've seen.

My husband works at a factory with a number of highly pierced and tattooed people.
Piercings are removable, and tattoos can be covered with a little makeup. (Yes, I've seen guys use it.) I used to work with a guy that was actually very tattooed... but he used makeup and no one ever really noticed.

Generally, any job that is not customer-facing. That is, it's unlikely they'd be able to work at a restaurant, movie theater, etc., as most of those places will ask people to remove piercings, cut their hair, etc. They do this to maintain a proper company image.

Most desk jobs shouldn't have a problem with it, though.

they can work in a tattoo/piercing parlor, work at holding signs on the street corner, work in a specialty shop (goth attire, body jewelry, music, etc.)
it depends on what region you're in
I've noticed the south is not as open to piercings and tattoos as the west coast

They work in tattoo shops or at Hot Topic, "edgy" boutiques, they are artists, maybe own their own business (set their own dress code). I think those are all the occupations I've seen people with many obvious tattoos and piercings in. They probably aren't lawyers, doctors or real estate agents.

any kind of job they want!
Hell, the financial instititution where I do my banking employs numerous tattooed, pierced, and gender-questionable individuals and that's cool with me. They haven't lost my money yet.
lighten up.

where do you people live anyway?

I'm proud to say that I live in TEXAS, and that most folks I know are not nearly so ignorant and small-minded as the rest of you!

What a lame question. Obviously you judge people on the way they look. Most of those people are really creative and are self employed, making cool clothing, accessories, own their own shops, musicians etc...

It's true, you have some who aren't but everyone I know is am amazing person with great talents..
