...also, is it wrong to wipe off almost all wild animals off the globe to make way for ever more human consumption?

very good article on global warming on front of msn home page and shows graphic images of the trade in bushmeat
.
I don't think that it is the "bushmen" from the rainforest--they are almost extinct people anyway--- I think we are talking about the illegal trade in bushmeat.
remember, monkeys are slaughtered and handled ruthlessly in front of their young, and the young are left to die. I find this very sad and disturbing that people (I dont give a s*** who) can be heartless enough to treat animals so close to our own genetic pool 99% the same monkeys are to us!! and yes, they have feelings, monkeys express emotions of shame, guilt, fear, depression, happiness, etc.
anyone who can not see this simply refuses to because of either ignorance of the subject, they are without a conscience, or possess some form of human egotism.

Yes. I think that the animals were here first, and just because their brains aren't as developed doesn't mean they don't have feelings. Animals have every right to be here, if not more.

Slaughter and hunting for food are two different things. If the bushmen need the monikers for food, then I don't see anything wrong with it; likewise, in any place where hunting meat puts food in the bellies of those who would otherwise go hungry, ditto.
But I think it is morally wrong to kill for sport. Also, I like a good, juicy hamburger, but I don't think it's right to clear the rain forest for grazing so McD's can feed the millions.

Bushmen eat monkey meat because what Americans & Europeans consider proper meat isn't available in the deep jungles of Africa. Cattle, sheep and swine are European and Asian meat animals.

Unfortunatly, by eating close relatives to humans, diseases have jumpped to humans via the bush meat diet in Africa. Bushmen have been eating monkeys for countless generations. Perhaps diseases have jumpped from animal to human in the past, but with modern global transportation the diseases spread again from human to human in diverse parts of the planet.

It is "wrong" to consume animals that are known to spread diseases to humans. The habit should be discouraged. But until alternative sources of monkey meat protien are readily available and inexpensive, it would be cruel to deny the natives their traditional source of meat! In the meantime perhaps the natives should try and grow chickens, an inexpensive source of animal protien.

This isssue has NOTHING TO DO WITH OVERPOPULATION. It is a matter of educating a very unsophisticated population to the hazards of their food source!

Bushmen can slaughter monkeys, if they plan to use them sustainably, and need to slaughter them. Hunting to eat is OK, trophy hunting is evil.
Wiping animals off the globe is evil...but it's OK, because ultimately we're the ones that suffer, so technically we are punishing ourselves in the long run (that last bit was sarcasm).
Yay for habitat conservation, but not to the extent that the occasional animal can't be killed for food or to cull populations.

To slaughter monkeys is not wrong at all. Those men need to eat some meat once in a while. If people slaughter sheep, goats, chickens, cattle, dogs, cats, rats, worms, horses, people, pigs, gorillas, donkeys etc. to get meat ~ why can't the bushmen do the same? They are also men - aren't they?

A bushman should be able to slaughter monkeys. After all, a man's gotta eat.

I think that we should take good care of the planet that we live on, and we should not wipe out all wildlife. That would be stupid and cruel. We should use what resources we need, and do our part to recycle and replenish those resources.

Lordy, this question again.
No, it is not right for us to totally wipe out any one species of anything, whether plant, animal or mineral.
We were entrusted to care for this planet and make it work, not to continually break it, bruise it, and deplete it. Kinda' makes me wonder if we're more like those slimey aliens in Independence Day(movie) or ourselves, sometimes, the way we act.
But never wearing fur or leather is dumb, because of the special properties of these materials under certain winter conditions. God did clothe Adam and Eve with the skin of animals after all.

We're animals, and the law of animals is survival of the fittest. We've already walked much too far down the path to self destruction to turn back now. There's no hope, so I say lets take out the earth as quickly and painlessly as possible.

What about all the homicidal monkeys slaughtering bushmen? I think we should call a truce and offer members of PETA as sacrifices/peace offerings.
