Of all things, I am a Hitchcock fan. I love his psychological mysteries more than his espionage movies, though 'Torn Curtain' was pretty good. In his movies I like to look for the key elements of a twist-turning thriller, which Hitchcock was an excellent master at crafting. In my opinion his ultimate best has to be between 'Psycho' and 'Rebecca', though I am leaning more towards 'Psycho'. Which movie(s) do you think was his greatest, and why?

Wow! How can you pick just one? That is HARD. For sheer entertainment, you can't beat "North by Northwest". The chemistry between Cary Grant and Eva Marie Saint is unbelievable, the wide-ranging scope, the suspense and humor!
Then there is "Strangers on a Train" with such great performances and a plot that keeps you on the edge of your seat. "Rope" is outstanding for its acting and the briliiant staging all shot in ONE APARTMENT!
But, I gotta go with "Rear Window" - it's got the trademark humor, the variety of characters, great Jimmy Stewart, and you really DO get lost in the story, did Raymond Burr do it or not? You don't know until the final scenes.

Watch the Hitchcock thrillers and then watch Mel Brooks' High Anxiety - especially the shower scene from psycho that Brooks parodies - not really a parody; but the exact mirror image of that scene - everything is opposite.
But my favorite Hitchcock movie is Lifeboat - so much suspense and the psyche of the human mind on one set. Tallulah Bankhead was used to her full potential here and not just as scenery. And you get a young Hume Cronyn (of Cocoon).
One could argue about this movie also being war propaganda being originally released in 1944.
Hey, but then again I also loved his comedy Family Plot; which would be my # 2 favorite by him.

Wow, what a hard choice to make, nearly all his movies are great and well worth watching, Rear Window, is great, but my Favorite, probably is "North by Northwest" just for the style of it, and the Monument scene at the end.

The Birds - I just find it genuinely disturbing whenever I see it. I mean what would happen if they did actually start attacking? There are so many of them and they could just peck through the glass. Creepy.
