What is a TRUE friend?

Are true friends people who talk behind your back? Or are they people you can trust? poeple who believe in you? someone you can count on?

Hi Girl, let me give you my definition on a true friend.
A true friend does not talk behind your back. If they are a true friend, they may ask someone else for advice on a problem you may be having (on behalf of you). But they will never talk trash or say anything nasty about you.
A true friend listens to you when you talk. They keep the lines of communication going whenever you have a problem. And true friends also reciprocate this for one another.
A true friend NEVER disses you for a guy. This is a rule in every friendship: Guys may come and go but your good friends will always be there for you.
A true friend is someone that you can trust, and she should be able to trust you as well. A true friend (even in the event of an arguement or disagreement, will never air out your dirty laundry for a revenge factor. For example, if my best friend and I were to get into a fight, and god forbid it ruined the friendship, I still would keep all her secrets in confidence, no matter if we were not friends any more. This is just common maturity.
True friends are also never jealous of one another. They are not the kind of people who get jealous if you buy new clothes, car, or earning an accomplishment. True friends are happy for one another and should encourage eachother when working on a goal, such as graduating from college...etc.
True friends also will come to your rescue at the drop of a hat or pretty close to it. I know that my best friend has always been there for me. She would drop her plans if she found out I broke up with a boyfriend, etc..
True friends also support us when in tough times. Sickness and in health. I have been grateful to my friends who have helped me to deal with my mother's breast cancer. The support is crying together, just being an open ear that will listen to you.

These are just my philosophies on friendship. I think its a universal thing when looking for true friends. Good luck!

All twenty. Pretty much, ^^this are what my aspects of what A True Friend is. But maybe only 17/20 of my aspects are my friend's A True Friend version. It's depending on what you need. For example, I must have an understand person [#15], because, I like being alone sometimes, so i can have some private time to do things quietly. Some might think i'm too serious in cases like homework or grades. So if [#15] does not occur in A True Friend of mines, the relationship will not last too long, if the person is that stubborn to not understand that. But for my otehr friend, in my version of her, i don't think [#15] matters. Depending on what you need in your life, you list might be smaller.

- to keep what you say between you two.
- will call you in on things when do and make stupid.
- never have an affair w/ your bf/ husband.
- hunt you down when she hasn't heard from you.
- never say anything to you out of maliciousness & spite.
