I was just wondering because I've come across sooooo many different dates that claim to be the birth of psychology as a distinct discipline. Some thoughts would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Actually, psychology is a very recently developed science. Philosophy broke off from science and religion centuries before philosophy was developed as an independent disciplines.

Based on the fact that some people consider William Wundt (1832-1920) to be the "father of psychology," while other's reserve that name for Sigmund Freud (1856-1939). In either case, I think it's safe to say that psychology was not "born" as a scientific discipline until the late 19th Century.
