I just don't get it. 75% of pop music today is boring repetitive and has horrible instrumentation.

Hey, it is an epidemic indeed. The airwaves are riddled by so called "artists" who are supposed to be praised as such"great talent"

Imagine a new music cable channel that introduced brand new artists to the mainstream, along with the greats- which was the original intention of the failed MTV. Kids could learn about Ella and Louis, Miles and other jazz greats. These young dorks don't even know who Jimi Hendrix was, and what artist was ripped off for the latest rap hit. People need to look underground to find the real musicians.

I found a great NYC based band called "The Substance" who has a retro style. They sound like James Brown/Led Zeppelin/Funkadelic etc. www.thesubstance.net

These guys said that the problem with live music is that the owners of the bar just want a high headcount. If you absolutely suck, and you bring a ton of people, they smile and want you back. If you absolutely rock, and you bring 5 fans, they don't want to talk to you after the show. People = drinks = money. Its a shame what NYC has become. So there are terrrible aspects of music all around us.

Do you really think in today's world great acts such as Zeppelin or The Police would get airplay? Would we even know who the hell Sting was today? the Stones? Barry White didn't rap or sample ( he is my ALL time favorite ) so would he be opening for Papa Grows Funk (another great unknown) ? Would someone like Neil Young be too ugly to market today? Nope, today it is a marketing scam.

Its a joke and a revolution will soon come.

becuase the pop music industry is just that: an industry. It has become a marketplace where record companies can milk these poor people who want their fame and fortune for all they are worth and then throw them out on the street when the cash stops flowing. Back in the day, it was kind of the same way but not in the fashion that it is now. A lot of it has to do with the media and what we see in these singers. Some people say, 'hey, she's not that great and she's making tons of money. I'm sure I could do it too.' and so they go out and get sucked in only to be propelled out some time later.

I agree with you.

The crown of pop music occurred in the 80's!

The creative instrumentation, lyrics, harmonies that existed throughout the l980's made that music the most replayed genre today.

Who knows why today's artists aren't more creative? Maybe they're not as talented or they know they can sell music that is what it is and so they don't make the effort to excel.

I don't listen to it and don't buy it.

well, because dumb giggling chicks can listen to it and actually understand what they are saying-- and think that it's brilliant and sexy when a guy sings "i'm in love wit a stripper", Normal hip hop pop really does suck but alternative, rock/pop is sometimes a good way to go-- you just have to look and look and look and not give up try Jason Mraz (not the produced stuff, but Geek'n Out Across the Galaxy, is good also Live At Java Joe's is awsome) Also you should try tristan prettyman, Jamie cullum, and Josh Kelley-- tori amos rocks -- sorry Music is hard to come by these days

Because its Radio Friendly and CAN be liked by all ages, not saying it is but it CAN.

Most of its catchy and gets stuck in peoples heads, so people go and listen to it again.

And so on.

We wont see good music becoming POP for a good while now. At the moment Indie is getting quite 'pop' so... Maybe it'll start getting good

Becuase the people writing the music are uninspired, driven by greed rather than a need to speak their mind and heart. Pop has becoem a business, a way to make money. Its sad. I don't listen to anything written by people who don't care about anything but money.

I think it is especially sad becuase a lot of teens listen to pop and think it is real and a true account of life, when it is just a lie put to music, to make money.

Because pop music is made for people who only want to *hear* music, but don't really *like* music per se (at least not enough to put effort into it). People who really like music take the effort to seek out good music instead of just hearing whats get marketed to them.

I think its because most of the music now days is created with computers. No one in Pop plays their own instruments. Its just singing, dancing with no meaning. Just someone reading words written for them. I think its called Cookie Cutter musician.

I know!! I completely agree with you!!
First of all, some music is considered popular because the people singing it is considered "hot" like PCD
And second of all, people like music from people who are famous for no reason and has no talent in music like Paris Hilton
