This is on an employers network? If so I dont think its a hacker. I would be more inclined to believe it is someone you work with. Maybe the administrator of the network! They are probably watchin you or your friend!

well the truth a good hacker( craker ) will not leave a trace but one sign of a bad hack job is that the computer gets vary slow and that some of you pasword want work. there are many things that you can look at. but one way to make sure you dont get hacked is to go to any sites that you think are funny looking, and never to a site that has a IP address in the link. i think the IP showing is most likely a hack. most likey some one used a hacking tool program to do it, in other words a beginer hacker.

Sounds like remote administration of the machine, not a hacker. Probably using VNC and probably configured to block local access when connected remotely. There are other remote admin packages that do the same thing. It's free, powerful and just pretty darn cool.
A good cracker (not hacker!) won't leave any traces behind, at least nothing that the ordinary user would ever notice.

hacker or a virus. If the hacker was any good and didn't want you to know your system had been infiltrated you would probably never know they were there.
Tell your friend to buy a Mac. They are much harder to infect or hack.

Don't know but the best way to find out is to scan the computer. If the computer in question has antivirus and/ or anti-spyware then uses these applications to scan for malware. If you don't have these programs installed then you can go to Trend Micro's Housecall page and it will scan the computer for viruses, spyware and other malware. Housecall will scan the computer and, if it finds malware, it will remove the offending file as well. The site is at: http://housecall.trendmicro.com/,
