Is it true that if they ask for an application fee, they check for credit with the money?

I'm looking to rent a house but I have no credit at all considering I'm 20.

If its an apartment complex or a house that is run not by a landord, but a managment company, then yes theyre checking your credit. Do not fear, I went through the same thing when I was 20, a whole two years ago. As long as you dont have utility bills or evictions on your credit report, you'll be fine. I definately recommend a Keg of Rolling Rock Black for your house warming party.

Yep, most do credit checks now.

You can supply letters of reference, a statement from your employer, and bank references, and a landlord might let you move in. (Ask the landlord what he/she/they will accept seeing as you have no credit.) Perhaps someone can co-sign with you.

They have to tell you they are going to run your credit and you must authorize this to take place.
