Life is more than the location and the structures of where you live...it is often more about people. Yes, it's true that the city of Detroit is depressed, there are burnt out buildings, the weather is bad in the winter, and there are not alot of fancy stores.

But the people of Detroit have a stong belief in their community and work towards improvement. There is a new Borders bookstore right in the city. The museums, concert venues, new baseball and football stadiums are all pointed to with pride. But just as importantly, the people of Detroit care about their neighborhoods...they are getting involved for better churches, better schools and better healthcare.

I think this gives people a good feeling and energy, and makes people like living in Detroit.

I live in the suburbs of Detroit. The coolest part about being from this area is that everyone thinks you are a badass when they here you are from Detroit. :-)

Like any other major urban area, it has its good areas and bad areas. You learn quickly which areas are safe and which ones are not. There has been a major push since the Super Bowl to clean up large parts of the city, and it seems to be working.

All in all, I would have to say it has been a decent experience ... but I am still working towards moving back to my beloved home state of Texas!

I was in downtown Detroit last night at the new Motor City casinos, 12am till 3. The whole city was shiny & lit like games night. Last two honest and hardworking mayors have all but turned the city around. The Detroit & the suburbs have become the investment center for all major corporations. Also the investments in New casinos, Comerica Park stadium, Ford Field stadium plus GM & EDS headquarters, new hotels and food & fun places speak for itself. I've been in Detroit 22 years, went to other states but missed Detroit and came back. Crime, lass than many other metropolis.

Nope, not true. I no longer live there, but I definitely enjoyed my time there. There are great museums, great theaters, a world-class orchestra, great sports teams, wonderful parks, restaurants, etc. Parts of the city are absolutely beautiful and it has a unique spirit and sense of place. Plus, Canada is only a stone's throw away which offers additional cultural and recreational opportunities. Personally, I'm more built for country life, but if I had to live in a city, Detroit would be on the short list for me.

Omg. . Detroit has it's bad parts, but so does every other city. Some parts of Detroit are beautiful, especially down town by the river. You can judge it if you have never been here. Only because you hear only the bad things about. Every city has crime. But the city has gotten so much nicer in the last couple of years and there is so much history.

I guess that would be a subjective question......I live in a Detroit suburb, and I love it here! As far as living in the city of Detroit, no way! It is only 6 miles from here, but I would not want to live there. However, the suburban area is great!
