Most of us are moderates.
There are a few radical left wing people who scream the loudest, and they are unfortunately making their side longer, which actually moves the moderates that direction also.
So, most of us who were moderates, are now considered conservatives.
If you are a socialist, you are a liberal. They want the government to run everything, even private business. They think they can spend your money better than you can. You can see the public school systems is a failed example of this.
Conservatives are accused of being for "big business", but in actuallity, "big corporations" donate just as much money to democrats as republicans. Look at microsoft, the biggest of them all. Conservatives are for big business, small business, any size business. They feel the workforce, and financial structure will fix itself (and it does).
If a business overcharges, then competition can come in and fix it.
Liberals would rather put caps on, and tax them to death. Liberals want to take away from the earners and give to the non earners. Liberals call the nonearners the 'less fortunate'. As if someone in this day and age did not have the same opportunity to get their education as another.
Liberals also believe minorities are not as good as the majority. Liberals want to give minorities a leg up on the competition, to 'make it even'. That would be insulting to me.
SUMMARY:
Liberal = Socialist
Conservative = Traditional American Values.
-----
edit, when you hear : "tax breaks for the rich", that means the rich should only have to pay the same percentage as everyone else.

Well, this is one that you really need to look into. Try watching FOX news a few times and just get the idea of what all is going on and begin to take sides with certain politicians. Basically, conservatives believe in lower taxes, morality(no abortions), less government, no social liberalism(feeding the poor, taking from others, higher taxes), and taking pride in your country. Liberalism on the other hand believes that people who make a lot of money should donate it against their will to wellfare organizations to promote other people. It's actually more like communism! Taking from someone else and giving it to someone who does't deserve it or is "less fortunate" aka a crack ho. Simple enough? Betcha couldn't guess I'm conservative, huh?

Well I took the test that merdenoms recommends. I found it quite interesting but also too short. It tells me I am a leftist, but I would NEVER define me that way, for I think of myself as a centrist, sometimes even a little rightwinged.
The truth is that almost no one is completely liberal or conservative, as we tend to be lib. in some things and cons. in others, we all are in some intermediate point of the spectrum.
You just have to read and learn a lot to define yourself in a true and informed base.

The definition of conservative is "to resist change". Liberals like change and progressoin. Conservatives usually like things just the way they are.
The answers here with the most anger will typically come from conservatives. That is almost always the trend.

Its hard to anymore, because I don't think the republicans are acting like republicans right now.
I think there is going to be a web-site started up soon for a presidential canidate who is only in between republican and democrat and not independence, weird huh.
I think its hard to follow anyone in politics anymore because its more about their personal agenda.
I thought it was strange the other day when Bush said, "I don't care what the polititians think, I'm going to do what I'm going to do and not change my mind"
Why do we have them if the President is not going to listen?

Liberals are all about change. Humanitarian changes (for the people). Conservatives believe you can go to hell before they'll help you. They are all about giving tax breaks to the rich and trying to eliminate the middle class so there are only the super rich or the super poor.

That's easy. There are actually four divisions of political thought with many combinations and variants thereof.
Conservativism
Conservatives tend to favor economic freedom, but frequently support laws to restrict personal behavior that violates "traditional
values." They oppose excessive government control of business,
while endorsing government action to defend morality and the
traditional family structure. Conservatives usually support a strong military, oppose bureaucracy and high taxes, favor a free-market economy, and endorse strong law enforcement.
Liberalism (Also called Progressivism)
Liberals usually embrace freedom of choice in personal
matters, but tend to support significant government control of the
economy. They generally support a government-funded "safety net" to help the disadvantaged, and advocate strict regulation
of business. Liberals tend to favor environmental regulations,
defend civil liberties and free expression, support government action to promote equality, and tolerate diverse lifestyles.
Libertarian
Libertarians support maximum liberty in both personal and
economic matters. They advocate a much smaller government; one that is limited to protecting individuals from coercion and violence. Libertarians tend to embrace individual responsibility, oppose government bureaucracy and taxes, promote private charity, tolerate diverse lifestyles, support the free market, and defend civil liberties.
Statist (Big Government)
Statists want government to have a great deal of power over the
economy and individual behavior. They frequently doubt whether
economic liberty and individual freedom are practical options in
today's world. Statists tend to distrust the free market, support
high taxes and centralized planning of the economy, oppose
diverse lifestyles, and question the importance of civil liberties.

If you have a desire to truthfully find out if you are liberal or conservative, that in iteself probably says you are not a liberal. Rarely does truth have anything to do with their actions or views.
