Unfortunately red wall paint take MANY coats of paint. I did 8 coats in my dog's bedroom before it was even enough to not drive me nuts. And the first person who said that kind of paint just shows the imperfections is making a strange assumption. I personally prefer eggshell paint, especially on walls that are textured since it doesn't show marks that flat paint does.
Since moving to the south where "orange peel" texture isn't common, all the walls in my house are flat/matte, and it drives me nuts that if you even touch the walls they need to be touched up.

Add some more coats of red and try not to get to frustrated. Good luck.

If you painted red eggshell paint over a off white wall you will need at least 2 coats to get an even finish. Dark colors like red, forest green., navy blue all neeed 2 coats over a white wall . You have 1 coat on the wall and it is spotty and there is white showing thru. If you paint another coat on it that should give you a even look , When doing the second coat be very careful to apply evenly and keep roller wet at all times , do not try to spread the paint out a long ways . Go slowly and evenly and it will look beautiful when it is finished.. Eggshell paint and Satin paint are the same Both are good coverage and washable when dry . The other type of paint is flat (not washable) and semi gloss and gloss (Both washable but best on woodwork only ) Good Luck with you room Make sure that you let 1st coat dry completely before applying 2nd coat

most paint stores can tint a primer to a dark pink. that would be your best bet. gray works, but why not use a shade of the color you are try to acheive. tinted primers work better than additional coats, but as someone else said, it will take several coats. try using better quality paint-benjamin moore, pittsburgh, even sherwin-williams. stay away from walmart, lowes, behr, etc. they sell cheap paint that will not cover as well. make sure that you wait at least 45 mins between coats. the person that painted 8 coats did not wait long enough, put it on WAY too thin, used cheap paint, or they were a really bad painter, or some combination of the above. anyway, one coat of tinted primer, and 2-3 coats of good paint should do fine. also, try a thicker roller cover, it will put it on a little heavier-use a 3/4" nap and you will have better coverage. hope this helps

You want pink-tinted primer. Don't let anyone at the paint store talk you out of it. I did my bedroom twice in red without tinted primer because the Home Depot paint guy said "oh sure, you'll be fine." NOT. I then painted my front door red with paint from Lowe's and the lady there tried to talk me out of the pink primer because the computer said I didn't need it. But you know what? I got it anyway and the red went on after it absolutely perfectly in only two coats. Not a smudge, smear, drip, or uneven patch in sight.

Use 2 coats of primer, then put 3-4 coats of red paint, it should work pretty evenly. Good Luck :-)

We painted several walls colors and the best solution to your dilemma is this:
Have some primer tinted light grey then paint over that. It works everytime.

Never use Gloss paint on walls, except a bath or kitchen, Gloss highlights all the imperfections in the wall.

you also might want to use a black prime coat -- the paint over - thats actually easier to do than red... white bleeds through

switch to SATIN, and never change.

RED BLUE YELLOW,,,especially in designer mixes tend to do that. It may take 3 coats to effect an EVEN look.
