Yes it is for several reasons. It helps moisturize your skin and helps keep you from looking like an prune when you are older. It helps your foundation go on smoother so you have a more finished look. Your skin will absorb the moistureizer when it feels dry before it starts to absorb the foundatiobn, so it helps your foundation last longer. You will notice that your make up tends to evaporate less when you have on a moisturizer underneath. Make sure u wait 5-10 min after moisturizing for your skin to fully absorb the moisturizer before putting on your foundation

Moisturiser Before Foundation

At your age foundation shouldnt really be necessary but if you do like wearing it then start by adopting a good skin care routine. Cleanse, tone and moisturise daily to remove make-up and grease as these leads to blocked pores. The sooner you get into a routine the easier it will be to continue throughout your life. Make sure you buy the right type of products for your skin. There are a lot on the market now that target younger skin but if you are in any doubt then visit a beauty salon and get professional advice.

Yes it is necessary to apply moisturiser (not necessarily as a base for foundation) especially if it has a SPF. Your young age does not stop sun damage occurring - it starts now. I would suggest at your age you choose a moisturiser that suits your skin type, has an SPF 12 at least (recommended by most dermatologists) and similarly find a foundation that suits both your skin type and colour tone. I am sure your mum will help!

It probably is a good idea to moisturise your face before putting on foundation because foundation can dry out your face and also moisturiser acts as a brilliant base!

I would never want to disagree with one's Mum, but...

Most foundations are moisturizing unless you have the driest of skin. At 15, that usually isn't a problem. I am much older and moisturizer under foundation just sounds greasy, shiney, messy. But it never hurts to go along with Mum because NO ONE WILL EVER HAVE YOUR BEST INTERESTS at heart more than her! If she is just mistaken, maybe you could get some advice together at a department store and the clerk can educate both of you, so you won't be in bad position of challenging Mum.

If you are 15, forget the foundation! The best advice my mum ever gave me was save the foundation until you are old and need it! Spots do better if they can breathe and a dab of witch hazel clears them up pretty quick. I stucj to moisturiser and a dab of CornSilk poweder if I was going out. I am now 36 and have yet to develop any fine lines or wrinkles unlike my peers who caked their skin in foundation..........

crap thats a lot of answers! i won't read through them to see if this was posted yet, but the definate answer is yes! Here's why:

there should be 5 steps to skin care
1) cleanse (creamier cleanser for dry skin and more of a gel for oilier)
2) stimulate (exfoliant,,, yes, you're young and your skin regeneration is still really fast, but this also helps get the blood flowing and will give you that all day glow)
3) remove residue (not just from the mask or scrub or whatever you used in previous step, but also all the harsh chemicals from tap water)
4) MOISTURIZE: whether or not you are in the habit of all or any of those steps before, any of those, plus a million other things, are dehydrating your skin. anytime after you wash your face, you should really moisturize to get your skin rebalanced. especially if you smoke or are around smokers, or if you're outside a lot... those things can speed up premature aging and you should be trying to fight that.

then 5) is protect, so good on you for wearing foundation. most have spf in them, too.

If you have dry skin then it is best to use moisturiser first as it stops the skin flaking and you dont get the horrible orange patches! If not as long as you moisturise when you take your make up off you should be fine. Hope i have helped!

i always find that i get spotty if i use moisturiser under foundation as alot of them contain oils and creams and my skin cannot breathe. i use a product called jane iredale perfect base powder. its fantastic, it is made of natural minerals and the coverage is excellent, it is a concealer, foundation and sunscreen in one and keeps my skin looking smooth and clear. you cant get it from the high street but you can buy it over the internet and skin clinics. i agree with your mum though as it will provide a base and keep lines at bay but too much oil can clog your skin up.
