I was 3 when the 70's started and 13 when they ended. I totally love disco, and if I would have known I was in the middle of an era I would have paid better attention, but I do remember disco. I was also very much into roller disco as well. I remember being at a yard sale when I like 5 and begging my mom to buy me these platform shoes, which she did, and I was on cloud nine, practicing my moves because I was going to be a disco queen, so imagine my dissapointment when I became old enough to go anywhere, like group dating or something, there were no disco's it was like that scene from National Lampoon's Vacation, when the Griswold's find out Wally World is closed. A lot of these answers deal with drug use, well trust me when I say I was not on drugs in the 70's. Disco was all about the music, the clothes, and the atmosphere, at least for me, since I never really actually got to go to one, obviously I'm still not over that.

I think it is because it made people feel sexy in clubs - it went really well with socializing and alcohol. I mean Rock N Roll begets on your own, not always attractive "Grateful Dead Show" dancing, if any - disco dancing in pairs, a bit more sensual, more body contact, almost foreplay (even just watching others do it sometimes).

Peace!

The hair! No, seriously. Anything new would have been successful in the 70's. The 70's teen generation was more free-wheeling than their previous counterparts and less concerned about appearing to care about everything from the environment to sticking it to the man.

disco music has a great beat that you can dance to, and it fit in with the rest of the culture during the disco era. you could play it anywhere, home, clubs, whatever. it's extremely versatile, and it doesn't hurt that I LOVE IT<3.

The dance rythm generated during disco is very to natural human movement for expression of joy or love. you can say it satisfy the wild instinct of human being. During that period human forget their social nature and express them in most natural way.
