Forget all the answers.

I used to have a small Windows 98 network in my office, with sharing MS Access file all over the lan.

To set a network:

1st option: you link the computers you have in a serial way (Computer A links Computer B links Computer C). You just got to have PC Ethernet card in each computer.

2nd option (recommended): you link the computers you have in a parallel way (Computers A, B and C linked to a central hub). You got to have PC Ethernet Card in each computer and a hub.

To make a database that can be retrieved throu out the lan, I sugest MS Access 2000, from MS Office 2000 Professional.

You get an older version of MS Office Suit, which will come with MS Access (the old one of course, the latest one doesn't go on OS before 2000 so you'll need an old version of the software). Or you can upgrade to 2000 and get the latest Office.

Set up a simple network (as it get wireless cards, or directly connect them to one of the computers and make a computer run like a server), you don't NEED to buy a server.

What are you trying to database on the network?
The security logs? What? If it is the security logs then you don't need a database, you need to set up a network admin.

::: Peace :::

The only thing you would be able to do is to get an older version of SQL server or MS Access and install that. Even though if your going to create a database server why would you go with Windows 98??

I suggest you upgrade to windows 2000 and to share one of the drives, that should take care of it
