For several years I have had pain in my right shoulder that comes and goes. Sometimes it doesn't hurt at all, sometimes just a little, and sometimes it hurts really bad. Sometimes it hurts so much that it makes the lower part of the side of my neck hurt, and my arm too. I cannot remember injuring it, but I tend to be very active, and don't worry too much about getting hurt. I am only 20, so I'm not sure what I could have done. Does anyone have any ideas what it could be? I tried to look on WebMD, but that website is pretty useless. My mom (who is a nurse) looked at it a year or so ago, and it has a tendency to kinda pop; she said there was specific term for that, but I forgot what it is. She said I could go get an X-ray the next time I come home (I'm at college right now) but I was wondering if anyone has anything like this, so maybe I could tell the doc that I have an idea of what is wrong.

In response to Ashley, what would cause busitis?
In response to catman, I haven't ever dislocated my shoulder.

Also, it is not just my shoulder socket, but my shoulder blade hurts also. I don't know if this makes a difference in y'alls answers or not.

I agree it sounds like bursitis, but then again, I'm no MD. I saw that quite a bit in the training room though.

I think an X ray is a good idea. It could be an inflamed tendon though the popping sounds like a fluid build up. Or a bone spur. Only an x ray will tell if there is ligament damage or a rotator cuff tear.

you would have to tell the doc cuz otherwise he wouldn't be able to diagnose you. YOu are Twenty and your body is stil growing
Trust your body dat it can heal itself without any medical attention.
Inside your DNA, there is a code in there
dat can make ur body heal everything
what if you had a birth defect in your sholder
and your body is readjust and the pain i s actually]
a sign dat your body is healing
if you take medication, u won't feel the pain
if you don't take any medication only then
you, by yourself is monitoring the healing process
your pain will go away you are only twenty

My brother had a similar ordeal. If your shoulder ever gets dislocated then your problem is identical to my brother's. Ultimately he had surgery to tighten the ligaments in his shoulder and as far as I know he hasn't had anymore trouble. Maybe if you go to your local clinic or ER they can determine if your ligaments are streched. Hope this helps. Good Luck and KEEP YOUR FAITH IN GOD!

You might have bursitis, which is an inflammation of the joints in the shoulder. It doesn't matter if my idea or yours is right, you have to go to see a doctor and let him/her make the diagnosis.
