Because the media started telling kids that if they like metal and do not like (c)rap they were bigots, and that (c)rap was the "in" thing. You can see how (c)rap is being pushed on little kids these days, since a lot of the new cartoons aimed at kids have (c)rap music backing their "cool" characters

I don't think "most people hate it". I think they say so because it's in "Vogue". There would not have been so many millions of records sold, if people hated it.
