Wow that a philosophic one. "They" are the ones that invariably feel the need to show that way and instruct you on how to do what you do when they cannot. Really "they" are just an excuse.

"They" are anyone who agrees you regarding the point you are trying to make. "They" are sort of a universal reference for anyone that doesn't really know what they (the person speaking, not "they") are talking about.
