I think I would call it dead pan expression comedy...
He never laughs at his own jokes or himself...
I think that's the key to being funny, when you make your audience laugh but you look innocent...

I thought he was pretty funny in "Lost in Translation" when he goes to that stripper place and says "Thank you" or whatever to the stripper when he's leaving. Who does that?? Haha.
