The answer is that we do away with the party system ALTOGETHER and create an Independent political system. As long as America takes its "team mentality" from the sports field into the political arena and votes based on a "label", this country can only go even further down than it already is. When people start voting issues instead of party affiliation, candidate popularity contests, or advertising dollars, we can reclaim this country with leaders of fairness and a vision for the true equality of ALL Americans.
Our votes are stolen (See 2000 and 2004 elections), the elected officials care more about "job security" than their constituents (government was to be "service" NOT a career path!), and "We The People" suffer in the long haul. Don't cross party lines to vote--BE INDEPENDENT and vote the issues close to and for the good of "normal" Americans.

I left the republican party once I saw the christian coalition take it over. Now, I vote libertarian whenever possible because it is the party of Principle and Liberty. I do not vote blindly though, If I don't know where a candidate sits "near the fence" - I abstain from voting. That is rare because I care enough to find those things out beforehand. The only time I get hosed is in a primary election where you must declare Democrat or Republican. People say it is a wasted vote but, It is better than voting the less of the two evils.

I have conscientiously paid attention to the political vibe of this country for all of my voting history. I watch what is being SAID & what the ACTIONS of the politicians are.
When asked, I have registered as an INDEPENDENT.
Crossing the party line is a joke. What we are seeing in this day and age is a GANG MENTALITY between rich white males who are bringing in a few minorities to "smooth over" the feathers of those gullible few.
A true answer to alot of the problems would be to TAKE the money out of CAMPAIGNING -- have a PAPER trail to all voting machines. --and have more than TWO so-called political parties in this country. There can be a split of will for the people. We should all be able to work together for THE GOOD OF THE WHOLE. NOT just for those with $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Ok, this is going to be up to each individual, but here's my take.
I typically vote Democrat. Not because I believe in everything that every democrat says, and not because I despise republicans, but mostly because I typically follow party line for democrats and typically feel that republicans have less heart for community and the real people out there.
That being said, I do my best to look at the persons campaign promises, their history in what they did before, and take instinct into account when watching them if I can.
In fact, in one of the most recent Utah elections, I voted for a republican because of his ideas on education, transportation, and keeping Utah clean in a lot of ways.
I hope that this helps.

If both candidates were pretty close on most issues (which happens more at the local level), but the Republican was pro-choice and the Democrat was not, I'd vote for the Republican, albeit while holding my nose.

I am neither republican or democrat and i am not the third party either. I vote for whoever i believe could run the country better and who's beliefs align w/ mine. so yes, it is possible for me at least to vote for someone who is not from a party that i usually vote for.

When the Democrats give up this thing about
LEGAL KILLING...and calling it ABORTION...
THEN, I will feel that I can vote for a Democrat again. Until then, the Republicans have my vote.
I wish you well..

The only way I could cross the party line is if the opposition said they would oppose the immigration amnesty and my party's nominee said they would....which could happen.
