The above answers are good, but one thing about Aloe plants they push roots in all directions and start new plants. Without some type of brake on their growth (such as a pot), they can take over a yard in a surprisingly short amount of time.

My grandmother always transplanted her aloe and her ferns straight into the ground during the summer. She had HUGE plants that she had to divide when she brought them back in the house in the fall.

I wouldn't transplant it out side, it will die in Michigan. You can move it outside for the summer, but be very careful, the sudden change in light and temps will be very hard on it. It will need at least a week to get used to the new conditions.

I would take them outdoors but leave them or transplant them into different containers. They love the full sun but will melt at the first sign of frost.

Yes, be careful of sunburn. Try taking the whole pot outside instead of transplanting because they don't do well in snow.

If you don't want the hassle of digging up roots, dividing plants, etc, you may consider planting the whole pot in the ground, so that it'll be easier to dig up in fall!

yes absolutely. aloe plants are very resistant to varying weather. in fact if anything they do better outside than in. they get more sun and grow much larger than if they were indoors.

Sure. Just let them get used to the increased sun by keeping them in filtered sun for a week or two.

Yes but you may want to keep them in their pots to make it easy to bring them back in when it gets cold.
