Mederma is a good suggestion as well as vitamin E oil. Sometimes when a scar is large it will take a long time to loose color. If the skin is raised a lot, it may never blend in very well. My niece ran her arm through a glass patio door and her scar is still pinkish and bumpy, and it happened 10 years ago! Keep it moisturized and take vitamins to help healthy skin growth.

any cut can leave a scar. A good plastic surgeon can minimize the visibiity of the scars, but it is just impossible to guarantee that they will be unnoticeable. Use of a cream such as Neosporin to keep the skin softer and prevent infection aids in minimizing scarring. Any of the so-called scar-reducing creams after appx 3 weeks is pretty much "snake-oil". The scaring will naturally reduce in visibility over the first year to 2 years if you use such creams or not. So... people who buy and use them within the first year are always happy with the result because the scars will always look better a year later... The first 5 days are the most important in minimizing the scar. If the scars are excessive, SOMETIMES, a cosmetic surgeon can reduce them. Its not always successful. Sometimes you end up with a worse scar. There is no way to guarantee results.

mederma may help, but I would see a dermotogist... some people have a scarring disorder called keliod disease, which causes you to accumulate too much scar tissue in the healing area. this can cause it to stay red and not heal properly... if you have this the dermo will just inject the scar with a little bit of steriod . this will make it heal WAY faster and prevent a protruding scar.

Neosporin ointment is what I used when I had carpel-tunnel surgery on both hands. After the redness went away, I opened vitamin E tablets, and put the contents on a large band-aide. I don't know if that helped, but I don't have any scars.....

At most health food stores you can bye calendula healing balm or calendula oil. It works very well on any scars, as well it helps them heal better then if you just leave them.

Could you tell me what the "e" is? I'm a wound care nurse and the "e" has thrown me off.
