If you're looking to be creeped out, I don't think anything was worse than the running zombies in the "Dawn Of The Dead" remake or the thinking, communicating zombies of "Land Of The Dead" (even though "Land Of The Dead" wasn't nearly as good as some of the other movies). But for a good laugh, "Shaun Of The Dead" just has you rolling.
The original, black and white "Night Of The Living Dead" is still the best to me though, because it inspired and transformed the entire genre.

Shaun of the Dead is just too funny. The whole deal of how they're going to take the car, go to Mum's, kill Philip ("sorry, Philip"), pick up Liz, go to the Winchester, have a beer and wait for this whole thing to blow over...hilarious. When they are just walking around oblivious to the zombies, I love it. Great. I like the new Dawn of the Dead a lot, great casting. And even if the folks of 28 Days Later aren't technically zombies, it was a great flick in a similar genre. I liked that the people almost had more to fear from other people (the military wanting to use the women as sex slaves); it was both creepy and thought-provoking. And the original Night of the Living Dead was a masterpiece. Great psychological terror.

Although I must certainly give credit to George A. Romero for Night of the Living Dead and Dawn of the Dead, I would consider I Walked With A Zombie to be the greatest. RKO producer Val Lewton thrived upon taking the most lurid film titles and making pocket-edition works of art, and though the earlier Universal horror films of James Whale and Tod Browning are better-known, RKO's smaller-budgeted horror pictures produced by Val Lewton have had a more lasting influence on American cinema.

I really enjoyed Romero's "Dawn of the Dead." The whole mall thing is very entertaining. "The Evil Dead" was a really good zombie film too. A bit funny at parts, especially now that so many years have gone by since it was released, but good nonetheless.

Shaun of the Dead hands down is my all time favorite. I got to see Night of the Living Dead (original) at the drive in when I was younger...it's one of my favorite memories.

Return of the Living Dead is punk rock & The original Dawn of the Dead is rad because of it's commentary on the American consumer.
