It seems like these days the press has started its own battles against government, business, issues, whatever...yes it is their job to keep people informed but what about going too far?

Carpe, it's difficult to answer, as you didn't give an example of when or where the media started an attack. Is the problem that you feel the news media should simply report current events rather than give their own editorial opinions -- that they should simply report rather than get involved?

If you're talking about an investigative journalist who went out and aggressively went after a story rather than simply reporting something that happened, let us know what story you mean, okay?

In general, I would say that we, the American people, are largely responsible for the type of reporting we get. Because millions of us tune into "entertainment news" and gossip shows masquerading as news shows, we promote lots of sensationalistic and/or silly reporting about models, naughty rich kids, celebrity divorces, gruesome murders, etc. (I don't feel informed after I've watched a few minutes of this, but I nonetheless watch it sometimes.)

In a consumer society, many branches of the media simply give us what we want -- and we show what we want by watching certain programs and buying certain magazines and "news"papers. A lot of it is shoddy. But we can vote with our dollars, and our remote control buttons.

I think we are too informed about the problems that go around the world and we should be more foccused on what's going on in our lives. If parents devoted the time they put into gossip, reading tabloids and watching/reading the news into their kids, they could prevent a lot of tragedies (low self esteme, depresion, drug abuse, suicide, etc.........)

The media prints what they are allowed to print. There really is no "free press" anymore but we are afforded the illusion that this is the case. Certain little embarrasing tales are what are used to perpetuate this illusion.

In my opinion they should print out whatever they want.
It's really the responsibility of the reader. You don't have to read or even believe everything they toss out at you, do you?
