The implication is oxymoronic. Like I say to all working class republicans, "You're not rich enough to be a Republican!"

a third world country can be a republic, which is any form of constitutional or democratic gov't. but the term "republican state" would refer to a democratic type of govt. Not like a state leaning toward a certain political party of the US

A republic is any country with a representive form of government withe elected legislature and a elected head of state. The United States is a republic. Rome was a republic before it was an empire.
