I'm aware that the American entrepreneur Martha Stewart, has served time in prison, but I'd like to know why.

Insider trading. She got some information from someone about a company that she owned stock in and sold the stock ahead of some negative news on that company. It happens a lot, but she got caught. Funny thing, she only made (or saved)about $100,000.

Martha, the dear lady, was just too up there with the big boys, and they wouldn't let her play in their ball game, so they just struck her out, with a curve ball.

I believe it was for perjury. I do not believe she was actually formally convicted for security fraud.
