In Calvin and Hobbes, the comic often references "The Noodle Incident" an open joke left to the readers imagination. That being said, what do you personally believe happened in "The Noodle Incident"?

I picture someone, like maybe Susie or the babysitter getting a big bowl of freshly-cooked pasta dumped all over her... maybe from an upstairs window... and the door was locked.

The Noodle Incident
The Noodle Incident was an event alluded to in many Calvin and Hobbes strips. Although the event was never shown "on camera" and the characters never discussed the exact details, the many references made to it reveal some information. For one, we can be sure that it happened in school, as Calvin was worried about whether Miss Wormwood had told his mom about it. Watterson frequently alluded to the Noodle Incident in comics around Christmas time. Hobbes typically mentions the incident when Calvin talks about Santa Claus's view of his behavior. When asked about the incident Calvin would usually answer, very loudly and defensively, "Nobody can prove I did that!!"

In The Calvin and Hobbes Tenth Aniversary Book, Watterson said that the Noodle Incident was a theme, much like Calvin's favorite bedtime story Hamster Huey and the Gooey Kablooie, that he preferred to leave to the reader's imagination.

LOL...I've always wondered that myself. Calvin and Hobbes was possibly the greatest comic strip ever, Bill Watterson is a genius. I was sad to see it go.

If you haven't done so, check out "Frazz", By Jef Mallet. The subject matter, as well as the artitstry, is heavily influenced by Calvin and Hobbes, and he has even paid homage to Watterson in a few of the strips.

As for the "Noodle Incident" itself, I have several theories. My favorites always included Stupendous Man, or possibly Spaceman Spiff.

YES! I've noticed "Frazz" looks almost like a grown up Calvin. That's the reason I started to read them and am so glad I did.
