hi, there is a web site called...freecycle.org, on this site you can tell people what you have and they will come and get it from you, it is a nice place to give things to people without throwing it away, i have been a member for along time, i just got a 27inch color tv from a lady, it works fine (panasonic)....check it out

There is such a company. I believe it is located in Downers Grove. I would suggest that you call the county (I think it is DuPage) and ask them if they can give you the name.
Sorry I'm no more help than this, but I hope it gives you something to go on.
It is harder to make "pre-owned" donations than you think simply because picking up donations and then getting them to truly needy people is costly and very labor intensive and a storage nightmare. It is cheaper for organizations to give the needy vouchers or gift cards to use for things that they need.

good luck, salvation army will only take something in excellent condition, if it has a scratch or a tear they won't take it. I usually do the by the side of the curb donation, sometimes someone will drive by and take it before the garbage man does
