wow.. you must really like orlando bloom... try reading the books. The movies had to leave so much out... and those were some good parts that got left out! The movie did justice, and it was georgous, but there's just something that the books offer that a movie can't give... especailly about Legolas.

they're tough reads, but worth the effort!

I loved the movies!!! They were soooo awesome! I have all three extended versions on DVD, and they're almost all I watch. The acting was great and so was the directing. They're possibly the best movie's I have ever seen. Although, like most crazed LotR fans, I liked the books better. I only have a few complaints about the movies-only because they were things that veered from the books(but, hey, it's kinda hard to make a movie exactly like a book, especially LotR. I'm actually kinda glad they did it the way they did or it would have turned out rather awkward):

Tom Bombadil and the Scouring of the Shire were omitted

Frodo deserted Sam

A few minor ones are that Faramir didn't act nearly as 'Faramirish' in the movie, Arwen rescued Frodo instead of Glorfindel, and Aragorn fell off a cliff. But hey, I LOVED IT SOOOOO MUCH!!!!! So really, I'm more of a LotR freak that a LotR movie-only freak.

Well, it's certainly nice to see an educated, intelligent critique of The Lord of the Rings...

I myself did not enjoy them, and I would go so far as to declare them some of the most overrated films in all of cinema history. Apart from Ian McKellen and Andy Serkis, the acting was bland and over-dramatic, I suppose to coincide with the simplistic and melodramatic dialogue. Also, the action was far overdone, and many of the subplots felt tacked-on. I will give it credit for the special-effects, scenery and cinematography, but that certainly isn't enough to make it a great film.

I loved them. I have all three on DVD, and can play them whenever I feel like it.

The main thing I loved about it was that the director/screenwriter made an honest effort to stick to the books. OK, large chunks got lost -- like the whole "Sharkey" thing when the hobbits got back home -- but that's inevitable in converting a book to a movie. What was there was very well represented, in my view, and provided beautiful visual images to remember when you go back and read the books again.

I had no complaints about the casting, either, except possibly Galadriel. Somehow I think she should have been even more beautiful . . . not that the actress who played her is not beautiful, but I saw her as more incredibly beautiful when I read the books. Maybe it's hard to find really terrific blonds anymore . . .

Lord of the Rings was possibly the best movie trilogy ever made.

I never got too excited about Star Wars or Indiana Jones, but LOTR renewed my faith in the power of cinema.

I loved the meanings hidden throughout the movie, and I loved the fact that so many of the characters had true friendships.

I am a lesbian, but I do not pretend that Sam and Frodo were gay. (I have heard some say it, but I refuse that idea). Instead, I see their friendship as a true friendship that simply isnt worried about being labled.

I've probably read Tolkien a dozen times in my life. The movies made significant moves away from the book, but they had to, Peter Jackson chose to tell the story of the ring, not the entire story of The Fellowship & Middle Earth.

I love his interpertations, but I advise you read the books, and if they are hard to read, you can start with The Hobbit, easier to read and will help ease you into the story of Middle Earth in The Lord of the Ring.

i saw the first movie, it was very good, but im sure if i read the book it would be far more interesting and better than the movie b/c i would use my own imagination, and it will be much more interesting!! directors tend to portray the movie the way the imagine it, and they cut out some important scenes that are in
the book... so..... basically get the book:P

I dunno... I think that they are good, for certain. They have a good plot and very interesting characters--by far the best Mythological Fantasy movie I've ever seen. I think the first movie is FANTASTIC, no pun intended. I think that it is Peter Jackson's forte. But I think that it all goes downhill after Fellowship of the Ring; I often confuse teh last two movies, for they are both long, drawn out, battel movies. Not that that's bad, but it;s not really my cup of tea. But I think Eowyn is awesome! XD
