Has anyone gotten tattoos over stretch marks before? Or do you know someone who has? If so, did it come out looking alright and were the stretch marks masked by the tattoo? I have a few around my belly button( about 8, 3 on one side 5 on the other) and I picked out two tattoos that would cover them and would look pretty nice. Thank you for all you responses.

LMAO you got some real dumb ringer answers!
Now for some intelligence...I wouldn't think tats over stretch marks should not pose a problem, I think it will look cool! If you talk to the artist doing your tats before you get them done he/she will be able to answer any questions you may have. I have 4 tats and 11 piercings and I love them all! As one twit here commented about what the tats would look like in a few years... who cares??? I tell people when I am 80 and my armband is now a bracelet, it will serve to remind me of my younger days with fondness, not regret! People are so judgemental it's hilarious. I"m a nurse and often get commented on my body art, people try to duplicate me, but they can't. Hold your head high, girlfriend and cover your body with tats...they only emphasize a woman's beauty ((hugs)))

I have to go barf now..just read above about someone not being able to forgive you for your "evil actions" wtf??? I AM SO SICK AND TIRED OF IDIOTS LABELLING US AS SECOND CLASS CITIZENS!

My sister has a tattoo over her hip and a small amount of the desing covers some stretch marks. They are not noticeable and it doesn't affect the design at all. What I would be worried about is getting new stretch marks after your tattoo. Obviously this is an area in which you are prone to them (though you don't say whether they were from pregnancy or just from regular weight gain) so that's something to think about.

Ok love let me tell you the truth...first off the people who are trying to talk you out of it don't even listen since that was not your question in the first place. My boyfriend is a tattoo artist and I have my share of tattoos. I just got my left arm sleeved and I can't see ever regreting it. The first thing is that if your stretch marks are deep don't even bother getting it. They will show right through the tattoo...if they are not too deep then go for it. If you do plan on having more children then I suggest you buy a whole bunch of Plamers Cocoa Butter and bathe in it. I hope this helped. Your body is a temple...a decorated temple :-)

Well it all depends on the shade of your skin, if u are white there is laser treatment to get rid of ur stretch marks but if of darker shade no luck there, and now to answer your question go for it, I have 2 kids but I had only got like 3 lines which one can barely see, I always wanted a big tattoo and my stretch mark was the perfect excuse to get one, I have mine close to a year now and I love it, it's beautiful and it covers my stretch marks. The best thing is to ask your tattoo artist, it depends on what your getting and the color. Go for it and good luck.

I’m a tattoo artist, and first of all, you are sooooooooooooooooo right. People always want to tell us what to do with our body…..horrible.
Now your stretch marks……you can’t cover them really, you can hide them behind a tat. And this depends on how deep they are. The problem is not only the tattoo-procedure itself…..the artist needs an eye for the design. Go and look for an artist who got experience in tattooing scars, ´cause it’s not so easy.
My advice, if you like tats……and don’t your stretch marks…….it’s a good choice
Stay freaky………

I've heard that getting tats is evil a few times before. dont' listen to them. I have two and several piercings as well. What you do with your body is your choice.
I have a friend who has had a couple of scars covered up with tats and they look really good. You just have to be carfeull that the artist has experince in covering scars. If not you could come out looking way worse than before.

Hey dont listen to all these people if you want to do it then do it. I just had my last baby six months ago and have three marks on each side of my belly and I am getting some tatts done this weekend and am going to have them covered the guy said it will look alright. But mine arent real deep either you can barely see them now but before i got pg i was going to do it any way. Go for it.

dizzle? like the guy from 'inked'?
tattoos will not cover a stretch mark or scar, but it will mask it somewhat - depends on the pattern of the tattoo - and i think it will look WAY better in 20 years than the stretch marks - but it is more important what YOU think about the tattoo.
Ask your tattoo artist what they think about the coverage - they will know better than anyone else if the stretch marks will show.
have fun!

So You have decided on the tattoo but if you are going to put them on stretch mark it is not a good idea. Eventually your stretch marks will go away but the tattoo that you put on it to cover them up will be misshapen. If it is the stretch marks that are the real problem here then there are ways of making them go away so that only you will ever notice that they were there. If it is the tattoo you really want and just can't decide were to put it or them. My suggestion is this either wait until you get ride of your stretch marks or find another place to put it/them.
