Body building and football workout are totally different. Body building low weight/high reps, lots of isolation exercises. To add strength a football player would do higher weight/lower reps, more compound exercises, more emphasis on core muscles, and power lifts like cleans and do plyometrics. The team should have a quality lifting program in place. As far as adding muscle, eat lots of lean protein (egg whites, chicken, tuna, lean beef, fat free cottage cheese) with every meal, take a protein shake with juice after your workout. You should eat 1 gram of protein for every pound of desired weight. If your desired weight is 185, eat 185 grams of protein daily. You may need to take a protein shake as a snack during the day as well or before bed even. Addition: Kate is wrong. The average diet has enough protein for the average person. Actually modern diets may have too much protein, but for an athalete that is trying to add muscle mass, you will need to increase your protein and calorie intake. I played college football and have over 17 years experience in weight training. Also, I don't know your body structure, but if you are small boned you may not have the frame for a LB or DB. Don't rule out another position. Your coaches will put you where you will be successful.
