Objects like tampons or pads have been around for thousands of years, in the old days they used anything that worked pretty much. Some of the earliest forms were a wooden stick wrapped in linen. Or just a wad of wool.

No clue as to who came up with the idea. But in the old days (I'm talking about the 1920s or 1930s) women would put a thick piece of cloth (my guess would be cotton) rolled up in their underwear (shaped into a pad). And they'd wash it when it got too full. And replace it with another piece of cloth. Of course, after washing it and letting it hang dry, they'd re-use it. At least this is what my mother told me that my grandmother used to do when I asked her once.

In the early part of the century they used pads but they had to be put on by wearing a belt that was made just for them. There is a good chapter on it in a book called Are you there god it's me Margaret by Judi Blume. Read it.

My little cousin just had a party, it was neat. The theme was a Hawaiian Luau . They had tikki torches, limbo, etc. It was really nice, For gifts I would go with the latest outfits or electronics. Gift Card are always good, so they can choose what they want!

The earliest versions of tampons appear in ancient Egypt, and they were made of moss wrapped in fine cotton cloth.
