If I were to repaint my car a diffrent color from what the manufacture put on it. Would that knock the value of the vehicle down. It will be done by a proffessional and I'm simply changing blue to black.

HI!
i am a female in the Autobody field. To be honest changing the color might and might now lower the value of the car. First of all it depends on the current condition of the vehicle. And if you have a professional paint it he will have to paint inside all of the doorjambs in side the engine compartment area and so on. This way it will look like it wa meant to be that color! After all you dont want a black car with blue interior trim.

I don't think it will decrease the value if its a professional paint job. In fact it would make the car look better, so therefore increasing the value. You do have to note a color change on a cars registrations in some states, so I wouldn't hide the fact that you repainted the car especially if you are planning to sell it. Me as a buyer would be curious about new paint job.... so take pictures of before and after to show the condition of the car, just to show that it was not in a crash....

Depends on the quality of the paint job of old versus new as to whether the value would go up or down. Changing the color costs a lot more money than just simply repainting the car in the stock color, however, because they must prep and paint harder to reach areas (i.e. doorjambs, underhood areas, trunk underside, gutters, etc.) that wouldn't have to necessarily be repainted if you were to stay with stock color.

No, it wouldn't bring down the value as long as it was done properly. Do keep in mind that it can be quite expensive because not only will they be changing the exterior, but they will have to remove all the interior to paint that as well. It's a very time consuming and extensive process.

From what I've heard, yes, it will reduce the value of your vehicle by up to half by changing the factory colour. Even though it's done by a professional. I'm not sure why, but that's what i've heard.

There shouldn't be much depreciation from what your car's blue book is. actually, repainting is a good thing. it should increase the value if its done right.

it will probably increase the value because black is more appealing than blue. depending where you live the insurace may increase. where i live white, red and black cars have higher insurance (go figure!).
