Here are some laptop secifications you should look for:
AMD Processor
80 Gig Hard Drive (to store music and stuff)
512 RAM
You might want Windows XP Media Center operating system.
Look for a computer that has LightScribe. LightScribe lets you label your cds with your computer without using ink or label stickers.
A Compaq or an HP would be pretty good for you. I have a Compaq and it's great.

You don't give much detail about what you mean by "pleasure" so I will assume you want to do DVD movies, some gaming and obviously some Internet surfing.
You need to ensure it has a DVD drive for the movies. You can easily get a 120GB hard drive these days which should handle any games you want to add. Ensure it has a wireless card either as a PCIMIA card or already embedded into the system. This will allow you to surf in both the USA and Europe where ever you can find wireless hot spots. I would also suggest that you invest extra money into the RAM of the computer. This is actually where most of the processing is done so ensure it has at least 1G of RAM.

I have had several computers throughout college and my masters degree, and I have found that Dells are the best deal. They sometimes run slow if you load them with music, but that is remedied with a jump drive. They are super cheap if you buy the refurbished ones, and each dell (old or new) comes wiht an ethernet card, which helps you surf the interet wireless. You should look for a software pack that will help you with what you do most often - internet, word, etc. Many places are not compatible with MACs.. but if you are a designer or a graphic arts major it is highly useful. HPs break very quickly. IBMs are workhorses and will last forever without slowing down.

Well first you should decide what the main purpose for it is. Such as for gaming, Internet browsing, speed, storage size and screen size. I have an ACER and I'm in Kuwait right now. You can buy a laptop anyone that you like and it is your choice. Just keep in mind that you will need the correct adapters for the part of the world that you are in. Also if you want Internet use think about a wireless laptop as well. I spent 4 months researching for mine and it is great, my opinion of coarse. Hope you find the one perfect for you and your needs.

In this competitive market you need to look at each and every details.
For e.g.
You need to check out following specs:
Processor (How much Gigz they are offering)
GPU (Is there any Graphics Processor Unit or InBuilt)
RAM (How much they are offering) -> Depends on your usage 256/512 is ok if it is general use.
Wireless and Bluetooth connectivity...
These are the major things you need to have a look at and ask any experienced guy or friend who got one...
Good Luck...
Take Decision Wisely

You should probably buy a laptop from dell or Microsoft, if you want quality. If not, check ebay, look for a good laptop, and check the sellers "stars".(do not buy if the seller has less than 3 stars.) Or search google or froogle for price ranges and types.
good luck, nick

Just remeber that laptops aren't really upgradeable (you can upgrade the memory but that's pretty much it). So get the best you can within you budget. I recomend getting a Dell.
