What is a stoat?

It seems that you don't need a licence to handle a stoat unless you are in Northern Ireland. Try searching on google.
I'm sure you are aware that a stoat is a member of the weasel family, not a rodent and therefore not "vermin".
It is very unlikely that his is a wild animal, they just don't behave that way. Try to get a positive i.d. on the species, but I reckon you'd be doing it a favour. An animal that tame is going to fall prey to some gormless idiot who sees it as vermin.
Cat food will do at a pinch, but he may need a more natural diet, try to get someone sensible to give you some advice. Try St Tiggywinkles wildlife hospital. Even the RSPCA turn to them when they're stumped.

A stoat is like a mink, right? I would imagine it would be illegal-like taking a raccoon home, but could you call the humane society and ask them for suggestions? If you want to remain anonymous, just take care of it until it turns on you...are you sure it is not a ferret that got loose from someones home?

Hi i once worked for an animal rescue, its not illegal at all, in fact most animal shelters are well overcrowded so your giving it a better chance,

though a word of advice, try and not get it too tame, otherwise your either gonna have to keep it for life (as if you let it go it wouldnt know how to find its own food) or later hand it into a animal centre anyways and it will just end up confused and scared.

In the colonies here, we call it a weasel. The legal issues depend on where you live. Bundle up the little fellow for a trip to the vet for a check up and some legal direction.

I should think it's probably ilegal if you aren't a wild life sanctuary because you need a license to handle rare animals i would recomend you contact the rspca of give it to a wild life sanctuary

Shouldn't you be focusing more on your dead parents now and not some wild animal you found?

i don't think it is illegal. But i would think about handing it in to the local wildlife centre where it can be taken care of appropriately

Check your conservation laws, In UK we cannot breed rodents, such as squirrels, rats etc as they are vermin and spread disease
