John Travolta, hands down. He is a well rounded actor and can play just about any role.

Of all time it's gotta be Robert De Niro. I know a lot of people might say this, but in his prime I don't think there was anyone better. Through the 70's, 80's and early 90's he played some of the most memorable characters in film history (Jake Lamotta in Raging Bull, Travis Bickle in Taxi Driver, Rupert Pupkin in King of Comedy) with gusto. He may have lost it a bit of late but I believe that this has been more down to choices of role rather than actual talent.

More recently, I'd say that it's Johnny Depp. Whilst other actors are playing it safe Johnny Depp is playing against the grain. You've only gotta look at Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Carribean and Willy Wonka in Charlie and the Chocolate factory.

That's hard to say. For sheer depth, versatility and overall onscreen presence (which is what makes a great actor), it would be hard to choose between Marlon Brando, Al Pacino, Robert DeNiro, Johnny Depp, Jimmy Stewart, Phillip Seymour Hoffman, Ian McKellen, Jack Nicolson, Anthony Hopkins and Toshiro Mifune.

Sean Connery ties with Harrison Ford
Connery for his pure acting ability while Ford is for always delivering a quality performance.

To the person that said Travolta...you're joking right? He plays the same character (very similar to himself I might add) every time.
